I know zero about Macs and pro tools compatibility.
I'll check out the sites you mention and start to make a list of what I'll need, cost etc..
Mac Pro 2009( or later) looks like a good starting point.
PT with FireWire Interface.
DAC/ADC interface.
Avoid current OSX /PT.
MH /UA gear ( yeah used, cost effective ).

How much has changed in PT since early 2000s ?
