RE: Is country music safe to listen to?

I don't post on AA much (even though I promise myself I will!) But nobody preaches like the converted, so here goes. I used to hate country music, or think I did. Boy was I wrong! I'd listed for the steel guitars and top-notch keyboard playing alone. But you're inquiring about singers.

I agree with a lot of the above-mentioned (below mentioned in the old format!) choices. Johnny Cash. If you don't like Johnny, PM me. I can recommend medical treatments. George Jones for what country music used to be, great vocals and deceptive simplicity. Patsy Cline was amazing. Hank Sr. for being Hank Sr.

Merle Haggard, boy howdy indeed, Mike K! Damn, that cowboy could sing. And write.

Buck Owens. Enough said. I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet.

While I'm not much of a Willie fan, I have to ration out my Waylon Jennings sessions or else I'd listen to nothing else for days. The Jennings/Shaver pairings are IMO the best -- try Honky Tonk Heroes and Ramblin' Man, two virtually flawless albums.

Talking about how dumb I used to be, for some reason I had Dwight Yoakam pegged as one of those boring "new country" pop artists and didn't give him the time of day. Not sure where I got that impression. He's brilliant. My personal favorites, If There Was A Way and Guitars, Cadillacs etc. Hot $h!t band too.

To the OP, I know you were joking around -- but if think these old country boys are redneck bigots, check this out.
