Ha ha. I don't know what it is about Ligeti, but he's one of the few, (well, actually the only), late 20thC Composers who tickles my ear.
I've downloaded his Melodien and Chamber Symphony, which I used to enjoy on Lp courtesy Atherton on Decca, IIRC, and Ensemble Intercontemporain on DGG.
I listened to the Melodien, and must say Bissie outdid himself in the sound dept. Very impressive, warm with plenty of aural cushion.
Melodien slowly unwinds into some quite beautiful Ravelian shimmering passages, but may still be too "un- melodious" for some. For me, Ligeti's orchstrations and fantasic ear more than make up for the lack of "traditional" big themes, etc.
