He made a statement strongly supporting the Atlanta Symphony musicians. The chorus revealed last week that he had made donations so they and the orchestra could get to Carnegie Hall for a scheduled performance of the Britten War Requiem (well received by the critics).
He acknowledged this was true and indicated that he plunkewd down $50,000 of his own money at a board meeting and tried to get the members to pony up. Then he participated in calling people around the country until enough was raised to cover the trip.
