Home Jazz Alley

From Louis Armstrong to Charlie Parker to the new greats of today, this is the place for Jazz!

Dunno what to say if you can't relate to the Emmanuel ballad I linked.

Anyway, there are many examples of Emmanuel's playing that IMO display he's a helluva guitarist and very musical too. But of course different strokes....Atkins was obviously a damn fine player too, but I definitely would not say he's a fave of mine.

There are quite a few jazzers who kinda habitually play very fast lines. Some manage to do that and make the lines musical, interesting and surprising/unique. Others just basically regurgitate patterns they've shed and/or licks originated by others. Its true that there's more of the latter than the former and I lose interest in their playing fairly quickly - though sometimes I'm very impressed with their chops on the axe.

Hey, the very first saxophonist that made me wanna play alto was Johnny Hodges - obviously not a speed demon.
