Boris sounds to me a lot like Nickolai Demidenko, another Russian pianist who is equally at home with the lyrical Chopin 1st Concerto and the violent Prokofiev's 2nd.
"I did listen to my record by Masur/Leipzig, after we got home, to check it out. It is much smooth and softer. "
It must have been an awful Beethoven. Not only was a recording preferable, but one by Masur? From what I've seen and heard of him in NY, the man has got to be a fraud.
