Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

Agree - Sorito was a better pianist than Liu

It was clear from the start that Liu would win this, but I never liked his playing. For me he's uninteresting in Chopin and I found his energy and lack of nuance tiresome. It could be that he's better in other repertoire but even so, he's not for me.

My favourites were Sorito and Kim. Kim didn't even make the finals. I gave up watching after round 3. All the good music had been already played. I don't find Chopin's concerti at all interesting. And anyway I was so disillusioned with the judging I had no motivation to follow the meanderings of the jury's minds.

Yet another competition like the Leeds where the wrong guy won. It's a trend, alas, to put pianism and impact before sheer musicality.

Makes me think of pianists like Zimerman. Big international career and won the Chopin but I never liked any of his recordings. I just don't find him very musical. Simple as that.
