In Reply to: Yes, some of the chord-progressions in the Schubert Masses are amazing. During the CD era I had a few of the posted by jdaniel@jps.net on November 14, 2020 at 19:59:25:
I now have it on a Testament CD. I also got the BPO Schubert set with Harnoncourt (with the symphonies, the last two masses, and the opera, "Alfonso und Estrella"). I had the Sawallisch recording for awhile, and, like you, enjoyed it quite a bit. Also Robert Shaw on Telarc, Giulini (on Sony - haven't heard his BBC performance), and Mathias Breitschaft on the Acousance label. Every one of these is excellent, although I can imagine some listeners' dismay at Giulini's slow tempos. (They're fine with me though!)
