I have Walter's Bruckner LP box (4, 7, 9) for a long time but just recently found his 7th and 4th so wonderfully carried out from Youtube and CDs. Because the LPs need wash...
His Bruckner is quite different in phrasing from the other conductors, one Youtube comment mentioned his interpretation links Bruckner with Schubert, very unique observation and I would tend to agree.
The recording of 7 and 4 is superb and in my opinion, similar to his famous Pastoral, sometimes the high strings are even more beautifully rendered. His 9th is not so successful, either the interpretation or sound.
To be honest, I only like about 20% or so of the HDTT transfers. I have quite a few his early efforts, among them I found Friedman's Mendelssohn to be the most impressive. I've tried to listen to some of the later samples but didn't find them very appealing to me. They do have more "tape sound" but I didn't hear more information being passing through this way.
