Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

Ah.

(Above: the French singer known mononymously as "Barbara."

Well, OK.

The violinist's sister, who is his recital partner, did not strike me that way.

BTW, to hijack this:

"Barbra" Streisand's birth names were "Barbara Joan."

Her "story" was that dropping one "a" was a response to people who told her to change her name for career reasons.

HOWEVER, I can't help but think that what was really in action was that there was a French Jewish chanson chanteuse who went by the name "Barbara," and that Streisand did not want to be the also-ran.

Does anyone know anything about that?

Wiki below on the original "Barbara," who was named "Monique," but took a French version of her grandmother's name.

ciao,

jm
