I do know of a mic I would recommend for you but not for $50 because with that 'budget' you are looking at the cheapest of the cheap chinese stuff.
From your scant description I would recommend the Beyer M88 above pretty much all others.
It works well on almost everything from vocals via bass drums/bass/percussion to brass.
It'll set you back around $300 I guess but it is a hugely underrated microphone even at that price also it is dynamic so no need for phantom power.
