On January 3, 2017, the industry lost Bret D'Agostino, the son of Dan D'Agostino. I interviewed Bret in 2014 for Audiophile Review and that interview sparked a friendship that continued until his passing. Bret and I spoke often and not always about high performance audio. He kindly sent me a card and called with his condolences when my Mom passed away this past August. When we talked he would always ask me if I had heard any good new music lately.

Often times, we would discuss the "state of the industry" and it was always interesting to hear his thoughts given his association with Krell, his Dad, and BSC Audio, the company he founded. Anytime I had an engineering or highly technical question I knew without hesitation I could call him for an answer.

He was so excited to be attending this year's CES and was working on a new class of products in the entry level price category. His business, while never running at full tilt, had picked up especially in the Asian markets, where his high powered Class A amps were very well received. Needless to say, he was very happy about that.

I will miss my conversations with Bret and my one regret is that I didn't meet him sooner. He literally grew up with many of the biggest names in high performance audio and I will cherish the time that I did know him, short though it was.

I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the entire D'Agostino family for your loss. I know how he loved good ole' classic rock and roll so my next listening session will be entirely that genre, in memory of my friend, Bret D'Agostino.
