Parametric eq is what to go for , and specifically , the reduction of bass nodes at sitting position is the most effective way of using eq
You can tune the system to taste as well
Must be done in the digital domain
J river comes with eq and there is a free program called equaliser apo
Otherwise hardware like many of the miniDSP boxes will do.
Nothing much out there in the analog domain that is really good... and affordable
Just fixing the bass is a revelation
I use DIRAC which is a time and freq based correction program , a step up from simple eq
