RE: Repair Sony VPL VW 50 remote

I am no expert, but I can solder and I have a sense of adventure.

Radio Shack used to sell a piece of plastic with some kind of coating, you could aim the (infrared) remote at it, and the plastic would light-up from the infrared beam of the remote. Would verify that the remote was sending a signal.

I have fixed a couple of remotes by removing battery-compartment corrosion, and in one case I soldered a jumper wire across a broken circuit-board trace.

Replacement LED bulbs are available, but I've never installed one.

In the end, all of my electronics repair has been to check for corrosion and broken circuit traces, clean contacts, replace failed/failing capacitors.
