RE: You make salient points concerning the potential...

Popular music has become so overprocessed, the notion of reproducing it with better fidelity seems pointless from the perspective of the younger masses who listen to it almost exclusively.

We probably have technologies available to really advance high-fidelity sound reproduction..... Problem is there isn't enough new blood with trained ears (because all they've been exposed to is this overprocessed music) to harness it close to potential. Heck, this could be why digital audio and consumer recordings haven't advanced much over the past 30 years.
