Hint: when you play the AOR of Bad English's "Straight To Your Heart" below, also play, from 1991, White Lion's "Broken Heart."
"Broken Heart" is another hardly-known and seldom-aired gem. And yes, I actually had a promo CD single of it. No, I did not buy it from UC Santa Cruz's radio station, KZSC. I bought it from a hole-in-the-wall record store, just off the Santa Cruz Metro Center. It brings back memories of switching from Monster Cable to AudioQuest interconnects and speaker cables. It brings back memories of daydreaming of DACs.
Because "Broken Heart" was not a hit to begin with, kids nowadays have picked up on it. They think it's cool to learn how to play the parts (made easier, because of apps). Vito Bratta's Eddie Van Halen's noodling can be heard, and the keyboards add a nice touch. Yep, today's kids understand that radio stations only play White Lion's "Wait" and "When The Children Cry." The media completely ignore White Lion's excellent "Broken Heart." Which makes the listener feel special, when she herself plays "Broken Heart."
