Metallica, "Breadfan"

Because Metallica are playing tonight at AT&T Park, S.F. radio station 107.7 The Bone was playing Metallica songs this morning. It actually played "Breadfan," which you never hear on the radio.

This song was originally by Budgie, in, I believe, 1973, which was when many of my friends were born. During the Fall '88 semester, Metallica did a cover, which appeared as a B-side on the "Harvester Of Sorrow" single. Metallica's version taught us a valuable lesson. It showed that thrash metal's roots included punk rock and the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (of which Budgie were a part).

My friends and I saw Metallica on December 10, 1988, at the Cow Palace. There, they performed parts of "Breadfan." It was in a key and tone closer to that of, say, Master Of Puppets, than their then-current ...And Justice For All.

Anyway, with its riffs, topic of money, and tempo changes, this song is killer. Play it.
