I never go anywhere amplified music is played. They ALWAYS play way way too loud. ALWAYS.

Between live music events, and movie theaters, the volume is ALWAYS too loud. Used to be in a movie theater one could complain and they would actually turn it down, Not anymore.
I no longer go to any live music event, except classical chamber music. (At least they never play too loud!!)
So IMO all those morons blasting away can get lost. And if they moan why no one listens to live music? Guess... douchebags.

As for really loud, like shooting large caliber guns. I have some 37db hearing protection* and still add in in-the-ear sealing plugs.

*the hearing protection I have is rated at 37db. That is the highest I have ever found. usually they are 30db for the standard ones, and some 33/34db ones. Add on the 32db in-the-ear plugs, (and yes I know the two are not cumulative)

Between the two forms of hearing protection, I can feel safe at the range,
