RE: Voltage regulators

used to use a US NAVY surplus unit (1954) about half the size of a standard locker: It had a buck boost transformer combined with a variac, and had adjustments for sensitivity. Could handle 35 amp outputs. sensitivity at max was 0.1 volt, but the damn clicking of the variac kicking in and out could drive one crazy.
