Naxos has a whole series of solo guitar recordings (probably several dozen
by now). The fi is excellent for the most part, as is the playing.
Merle Travis: Walking the Strings.
Doc Watson was a master of the acoustic guitar, and all of his recordings
that I have heard are at least sonically excellent.
Byran Sutton has made several excellent recordings for Sugar Hill.
Dan Crary has recorded several albums, all sonically excellent. His
playing is off the charts.
And then there's Tony Rice, who may be the finest acoustic guitarist
playing today.
