Cable problems can cause distortion but they don't not cause hissing noises, so there's your first clue. Disconnect the amp and the CDP. Hook up a cheap old used stereo receiver, the kind you find at the second-hand store (NO raspberry beret required!), and dial in a radio station.Is the noise and distortion now gone? Re-connect the CDP and listen to it. If things still sound OK, you'll know where the problem lies.
