I only upgraded if I thought there was something deficient in the current system and improving upon those deficiencies would bring forth more satisfaction regarding enjoyment of the music.
If you feel you have a "moral obligation" to upgrade what you believe is already a sufficient system, those "upgrades" might end up being downgrades. Because not knowing what exactly needs to be upgraded might result in "upgrading" a strong point of the system, where changing it would likely make it worse.
