That is, early post-college. I wasn't brought up with classical, in fact I wasn't brought up with much music at all. My parents weren't musically inclined to any genre and I heard nothing expect what was on AM radio and at church.
There is a story I tell:
One day on the bus returning from university I over heard a couple of ladies talking. One was bragging about her son, the doctor, (yes, I believe she was Jewis). One brag was that he was into classical music despite that he had never heard it as a child. I figured if the good doctor could learn to enjoy classical music as an adult, so could I.
