RAID = Redundant Array of Inexpensive (or Independent) Discs

There are various RAID configurations, but for our music purposes here, I'd guess that most configurations are set up for mirroring (RAID 1): the same data is written to two different drives, so that if one fails, the other continues and the failed drive can be replaced.
