Real shame theres not more shows out there that can challenge the mind and deliver a lesson of ethics and morals.
Nearly the entire original cast and TNG has said they really didnt have any idea what they were getting into. Heck Nimoy himself would joke about times like being invited to NASA and having the staff talking to him like he was on their level. He would have these true geniuses and space travels talking to him and thinking of him as an equal and or inspiration. Sorry but I cant help but look at that in a positive light myself.
He may not have lived and breathed and Spock character himself. But he did say on record many times how he felt honored he influenced so many. And IMO he did do the character justice.
It may be a stretch, but the Spock character kind of reminds me of another great moral fiction character, Atticus Finch. Another book and film that speaks volumes of what people can aspire to be. Clearly Finch is a bit more grounded and relateable LOL...
