In wall Cable and surge protection at the meter box

Hello and season's greetings.

I am planning on a dedicated power supply from my meter box to the audio room. The JPL in-wall cable and others are a bit expensive so I am looking at the next best option. Problem is I don't what what the next best option is! Does anyone have any suggestions? Might it be just normal standard electrical cable?
My electrician suggested I put in a surge protector in the meter box that will protect all appliances in the house. Does anyone think this is a good idea in relation to my audio?
Thx so much for your comments.
Bob
