RE: John Curl Phono Pre In TAS

The JC3 is explosively dynamic and dead quiet. You may not like its sound but if your unit is noisy you have a defective unit. Period. This is one of the quietest phono pre's I have ever heard (the best was the Pass Xono). On the negative it has a certain whiteness to the higher frequencies but I'm quibbling here. Tight dynamic bass, a fleshed out midrange, black backgrounds but not the best treble finish. For the money its superb which in my opinion reflects a designer who knows where to spend money and design a great product. If I needed an adjustable impedance preamp I would look at the JC3+, otherwise the original JC3 is superb.
