The 323 is the better amp. You could get one of those and a pair of 407's new for less money.
The 323S is $875, new. the 407's are $520, new.
People use Stax headphones for 20, 30 years, I haven't heard anything about short life on them.
The 323S and 407 would be a real nice setup. I used to have the 323S and 507's. I've switched over to Sennheiser HD800's and a tube amp - more expensive, but I really like it.
