RE: Why is a square wave test a validtest for speakers?

"What do you hope to measure with a square wave test on a speaker?"

Why not?

You can tell a lot about hopefully linear systems using a squarewave and a scope. It has nothing to do with music, it's just a "test signal" that's easy to generate and observe and, IMHO, typically very revealing.

But I can't say that I've ever tried it on speakers and I can see where it would be a lot more ackward than using the technique in the electrical realm.
