Need your advice

Please forgive me for probably being off topic here but I'm looking at investing in 3 surge suppressors and need advice. The first will be protecting a 42" Panasonic plasma, dvr and just a few audio components. The second will be protecting my computer and everything associated with. And the third will be protecting my aquarium equipment, a fair amount.

I've read enough on surge protectors to know that they don't last forever and some of the better ones alert you when they're done for. This is what I'd like to get into if possible. Can anyone suggest a good surge suppressor for all three of my applications that comes in at $50 or less?

Thanks for the help

EDIT: Just read an article where a guy was comparing a Tripp Lite Isobar 4 Ultra to a simple APC Net 8 and and suggested he would choose the APC as the Isobar 4 would continue to power the outlets after it had effectively stopped working as a suppressor, whereas the APC actually stops all electrical transmission entirely when it's received too many jolts. To me it's real important to know when the thing has stopped working. Those APCs got recalled for some overheating incidences, but should I be looking at other APCs if they still offer the same type of disconnect protection?
