Saw the original and that one

Would have to say the playing was better on the second though it was missing the jism, as John Lennon would say.

Nonetheless, it was inspiring to see Townshend and Daltrey able to play at such a high level. Starkey and Palladino did not attempt to play it exactly the same which was good since they are great musicians in their own right and it was good to hear it a little different. One of the great things about WHO shows is that the songs were played LIVE, they could not reproduce the layers of the album on stage and had the good sense to not try.

The first QUADROPHENIA show did have a horn section and Townshend did rely on the tape machine a few times but for the greatest part the songs were played by four guys who knew how to play with each other and make the most of what they had.

The second show did have more musicians on the stage but it did not lapse into the GREATEST HITS BROADWAY extravaganza as so many of these shows have devolved.

Daltrey's video was a surprise. I usually hate that kind of thing but this was very impressive. I have to admit there were times it put the lump in my throat. Intelligent and emotional - I guess it qualified as art. Even had a glimpse of John Lydon ...

Now this will truly be a greatest hits tour and I could be tempted but fear the possibility of twenty minutes of MAGIC BUS. I just don't want to hear that ever again.

I would much rather go see a show promoting a new record. Do they have another one in them? I have grown to love ENDLESS WIRE and bite myself that I did not go to see them when they were touring for that record. OK, it might be because I am hungry ...
