"Every audiophile overestimates his\her powers of perception, it is the sine qua non."
I won't even argue whether this is true.... In a lot of cases, it is true... BUT.........
There have been too many audio designers and music producers who believe because of that, they can get away with audio components of lesser quality and/or recordings with added processing, believing the consumers wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Heck.... Why are producers remastering Frank Sinatra classics with Auto-Tune? Because they believe nobody will notice. But a lot of people *do* notice... And this chicanery in design and music production wreaks to High Heaven.
I am personally getting sick of these "overblown audiophile perception" claims.... Because I believe they are lame excuses to give compromised audio designs and overprocessed recordings a pass. I'll go as far as to say it's a major reason why music and audio have been on the decline. And will continue to decline.
Two links below.... Same Frank Sinatra song.... One has Auto-Tune applied, the other does not. Would easily pass an ABX test for anyone familiar with the effects of the processing. The only other thing I'll say is I smile while listen to one track, cringe while listening to the other.
