RE: Step Up Transformer Help Needed

All things being equal (which I'm not sure that they are), the ZYX cartridge signal is 6.4dB less than the Benz. A significant drop, so unless you increase the gain somewhere (SUT or phono), there will be a significant drop in volume.

Chip647 posted a chart that came from the BobsDevices website which I have linked below to give you more detail and context. I believe the internal impedance of the cartridge will also need to be taken into consideration per the chart, so you'll want to compare this spec in the ZYX vs the Benz.

Take a closer look at the BobsDevices CineMag 1131 (Blue) SUT With Switchable Gain. He makes additional comments in the description that might help. If you plan to buy one of his SUTs (which are Excellent, BTW!), Bob can help you choose.

I still have his basic CineMag (Red) SUT from when they were $395. He no longer sells this model. I also owned the CineMag 1131 (Blue) but sold it when I downsized my system and put away most of my vinyl.

You'll get better 'expert' help by posting your question in the Vinyl Asylum section.
