If you sit so the ensemble subtends the same angles as your speakers, 45
degrees, say, and you are at or within the hall's critical distance
(where the direct sound power and reverberant sound power are the same),
then you will perceive a similar stereo image to what you hear on a
recording. However, those two conditions are rarely met in the audience
at a live concert.
