General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

Let's see...

No, one needn't attend

Agreed.

but if youngsters indeed were a significant number, they'd have some representation. They don't.

You just agree one need not attend an audio show to be an audiophile and now you are saying if youngsters, those under 50 as per the comments by the original poster, were significant, they would be there. Says who, you? You are one of the most pessimistic inmates on this board.

There are plenty of geezers still left alive that buy stuff.

Yes, worldwide the industry is doing ok and plenty of under 50s buy decent audio gear.

Personal observation isn't worth squat, "Say, that isn't so, I know a guy who blah, blah, blah…"

Says a whinging old guy who consistently muses about the demise of high end audio, and virtually everything else as well.

As I said, retailing has changed. Folks, especially those under 50, need not attend audio shows to gain a knowledge of what is available. The internet has changed the buying habits of many.

The OP asked;

Why is good audio dead for this group?

Simply, it is not. However, it seems lots of whinging, pessimistic old guys like to muse it is. I think mainly because the old guys don't 'see' the younger crowd, due to the changing patterns of retailing. You know, personal observations at audio shows, B&M outlets and on message boards filled with old guys whinging about the demise of audio!
