Nice, I like the idea of you building it yourself.
If you are hooked on the design I think I'd be tempted to use at least 6x4 if using timber. Of course it all depends how much weight you wish it to support. Also I think using supporting brackets from post to shelf will be a must.
Just make sure you start with a established angle, say, 75°
