On Sept. 12 in Denver there’s a benefit concert for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) research. All proceeds go to this cause. It is sponsored by Ayre Acoustics. Many of you know of Charles Hansen, president of Ayre, who was injured some years ago and is paralyzed from the chest down.
Ayre was instrumental in the design of Neil Young’s Pono player and there will be four Pono’s for demo before the concert. A coupon (signed by Neil Young) for a Pono player from their second production run (Jan 2015 is my latest info) will be raffled off. The first production run is already sold out.
The concert itself includes performances by international piano soloist Katie Mahan, former Colorado Symphony Orchestra first cellist Jurgen de Lemos, and the Musica Sacra chamber orchestra. More details (including info re: corporate sponsorships) are available at www.ayre.com or www.katiemahanfoundation.org.
Full disclosure: I’m a friend of Katie and Charles as well as a longtime Asylum member, and am helping to organize the event. Everyone involved is working “pro bono” so this is not a commercial advertisement, but rather an invitation to enjoy an evening of great music making and to demo the Pono player (and maybe win one), while simultaneously benefiting a worthy case. I hope to see some of you there.
