I occasionally close my eyes at live acoustic concerts when the music gets really good

as music to me sounds so much better without a visual component.

All I was saying is without the visual clue from my eyes most instruments played live are much larger than they appear with eyes open.

The original poster asked if our systems sound bigger than the music? And for me many instruments sound bigger than they are at live acoustic events when I close my eyes. So minus the visual component to resize the musical waveform, instruments and voices will never have the same size as they do live with eyes open. An accurate reproduction of what we hear from audio formats at home should come close to what we hear at a live acoustic event with our eyes closed.

Next time you attend a live acoustic concert, try it for yourself by closing your eyes and see if many instruments are larger than with eyes open for you as well.
