I reread your post and

I'm not sure what this means : "I have listened to some stereo systems with large speakers that sound bigger than the actual performance should sound. Like voices and piano sounding bigger than they actually are."


With the same recording and exact same system that recording would sound "bigger" in a 20X30 room than a 10X15 room. Then of course there is hearing a piano and voice unamplified live vs when amplification and mics are used to record or even just provide reinforcement for live music.
