Pain in the butt adverts interfering with positioning

I have found recently that some adverts that are showing on the right of the pages are causing the page to think that it is loading forever. This is having the effect (in IE 7.0) of not showing that a link has been accessed. Normally if I click to read a thread and then use the Back button to return, the thread will be highlighted differently to show that it has been read.
I rely on that feature to know where I am up to (i.e. what threads I have read or not read).
One such advert is the Vodaphone broadband advertisment (this may only show up in the UK as it has sterling prices on it). It appears to have been created in Flash.
Anyone else getting annoyed this way?
