Cables/interconnect question

205.152.15.162

I am planning on building a DIY rack for my stereo equipment, and would like to know if it would be better to build a separate base for my amplifier and place it closer to the speakers, therefore needing a shorter pair of speaker cables (6-8 feet) and a longer interconnect ( 3m.) between my preamp and amp, or put the amp with the rest of my system and have longer sets of speaker cables (approx. 14 feet) and a shorter interconnect (1m.)??
Which one of these two configurations would yield the greatest sonic benefit and why??
My system consists of:
rotel 965se cdp
BAT 3i preamp
ATI 1502 amp (next one to be upgraded)
Meadowlark Audio Herons
Kimber interconnects and DH Labs speaker wire

Thanks in advance for replies!!

Regards,
GF
