CES: More Best of Show/Highlights

12.13.238.140

...just my 2 cents...
Expensive: The Soundlab M-1/Wolcott Presence room was wonderful as it's been the last several years. You felt like you could just walk into those speakers and touch the instruments. The Manley/Coincident (Total Victory) room was my favorite exhibit this year; dynamic and punchy, with great soundstage! A Swiss company under the name "tri-cell" was showing a version of the ESS-like (Heil tweeter/cone woofer) speaker (the model name eludes me). It was the easiest speaker sound to live with; smooth, sweet, with surprisingly good bass, but soundstage was just a little closed in. The Martin Logan/Blue Circle room was terrific...detailed, yet easy on the ears with great transparency and balance. Of course, I'm biased being a Martin Logan owner. Blue Circle exhibited 150 wpc hybrid monos to drive the ML Odessys very nicely. And, the McIntosh hometheater demo really rocked.

Moderately priced: The Audes room with the $1000/pr Studios and $2000/pr Blues were quite nice for the $. And, the new Red Rose 50 wpc integrated amp ($2500) was quite impressive as well driving their "Classic" ribbon/cone hybrid speakers. Finally, the petite sized Swans model 4000 h/t tower at $600/pr was incredible!
