Graphic abuse from CES

The Shigaraki budget system from 47 Labs, total price $8,300. What's Shigaraki mean?

Note those electric cables! Art Audio's "Gill Signature" ($3,800, SE EL34) had them lighted up rocking the Solidiquy speakers ($6,400).

What can you say about Kondo except, sit back, shut up and listen! The table was a Garrard 501. In the middle foreground is the X-4313, 300B PP amp. The system was excellent with a deep, wide soundstage and liquid sound.

Audio Valve had yet another fine sounding room with more gear than you can shake a stick at to drive the little Jean Marie Reynaud Offrande monitors. The Vyger table can be seen on the right.

Balanced Audio Technology was showing their new VK-300x Integrated Amp ranging from $3,500 to an SE version with the 6H30 tube for $5,000. It's a hybrid with the optional tubed preamp section and even an optional phono stage.

Steve Bednarski of BAT. But the picture I missed was the little System Audio monitors that were mated with the system. For $3,500, there're not cheap, but you'd swear you were hearing a far larger speaker or that there must be a sub in the corner. The CDP was a Sony, not!

My top 10 just keeps growing, Emotive Audio Designs had yet another. The speakers were from SAP, I think, and I'm equally foggy about the amps which might be the Caeli 300Bs.

Fred Volz of Emotive.

The Emotive Sira preamp.

The Neat room featured the Vito speakers fed by Exposure electronics and a Roksan table. Everything sounded quite neat with Neuance isolation platforms which are quite different. Forget heavy, these Neuance devices feel more like balsa wood or foam, very light weight. Unfortunately, I missed Ken Lyon twice! Maybe next time.

See you next year, Bobby.
