More eye candy from CES

Here you go.....

Welcome to the first annual, Asylum Yoyo Masters. Check out these Stereophile dudes, Kal Rubinson has the technique, but Robert Deutsch is a quick study and gave Kal a real run for his money. Watch that beer guys! But sorry, AJ beat you all, hands down!

Joule Electra's Judson Barber provided the electronics in the wonderful Joule/Merlin room.

A close up of the new Joule VZN-100 Marquis monoblocks, priced at $12,000 per pair and delivering 100 watts of clean power with 6-6C33s per chassis.

Richard Vandersteen and his lovely wife pictured with the new Reference Monitors ($6,995). The new Monitors are essentially the top end of the Vandersteen 5 with an added downfiring woofer extending their bottom end down to about 40hz. As is typical of Vandersteen products, the speakers imagined like demons producing a warm, musical sound that fans would expect.

The Art Audio Jota. Like the entire Art Audio line, these are works of art that also happen to sound very good.

Art Audio's Joe Fratus pictured with Stephen on the left.

AJ Conti of Basis gave us an extensive Turntable 101, 202, 401, and 503. While I won't claim to understand the physics, it was extrememly interesting and enlightening, thanks AJ.

As always the proof is in the pudding and the Basis Debut equipped with the new Basis Vector unipivot arm produced some tasty pudding. The Debut is priced at $8,450 or $10,600 with vacumn option. This baby was also extrememly well isolated. Try pounding on your rack with the table playing. AJ did several times, about as hard as he could, and nary a sound could be heard, nothing nada. A manufacturer's trick? I don't know, try it at home and let me know what you hear. The setup across two racks goes even further to prove the point of isolation. It's claimed that the Debut can even be set up atop a sub woofer without ill events.

Jeff Joseph of Joseph Audio gave us the speaker 101 and demonstated why his RM33si speaker is a world class product. And it passed the test producing liquid sound that was one of the best of the show.

At just $1,799, the Joseph Audio RM7si Signature MK2 was simply astounding and produced much deeper bass than expected. It's shown with the RM22si, priced at $2,499, which is essentially the same driver compliment in a larger floorstanding design.

Back to tables, here's the Avid Volvere ($4K). An upgraded variant of this table should be available in the US sometime later this year.

Conrad Mas of Avid discusses the complexities of suspended table design and tricks of the trade in casting the sub-chassis for the Avid tables.

Cardas' table is yet another example of functional art.
