Encounter with a non-audiophile.

An older gentleman who I work with recently came to me for stereo advice. He had been speaking with another co-worker about wanting to purchase a stereo for his wife and the co-worker told him he should talk to me because I "like that kind of stuff". The guy tells me he wants to buy a stereo that will allow his wife to play records, cassettes, cd's and have a radio. He also says it would be nice if she could control the system from various rooms in the house and have speakers throughout the house. This guy is pretty well off but I point out to him that what he's asking for could be pretty expensive. His reply was "Oh, moneys no object, I want it to be the best, I'd be willing to go as high as four or five hundred dollars". For the first time in my life, I was pretty much speechless. I mumbled something to the effect of "Uh, go to Circuit City and look at their rack systems". He thanked me, seemed satisfied, and went on his way. I wonder what his wife is going to end up with. This was not a guy looking for an education, what would you have told him?
