I'm late to this discussion,but it's been my my experience that the PC Audio used for demo purposes at Audio Stores has been along the lines of "quick & dirty" as far as setup is concerned.

As such, what you may be hearing is not a real indication of what PC Audio is capable of sounding like. I think PCs are great tools at processing music,but require much more work than Audio Components do to sound as "Musical"(which everyone has to decide for themselves where their threshold for this is)
