Re: Comparision btw. CJ & Naim

The CJ DV-2b is actually a very good cd player. It's exactly like the CAV50 made into a cd player. Very smooth sounding, warm, rich and very easy on the ears. Again, it aint the last word in terms of details, or bass depth and impact, or speed. Again, like the CAV50 (or the Electrocompaniet EMC-1 for the matter) - its a bit too civilized to play raw rock n roll. The good thing is that most badly recorded bright and thin sounding cds sound enjoyable on the DV-2b.

My main quibble with it is that the buttons are sometimes too slow to respond. A friend of mine also bought one and it can't read most discs after a month, but fortunately CJ sent him a new player as replacement. Lastly, its 1V output maybe undesirable to you if you dont like turning the volume control way up.

As for CAV50 vs Pathos Classic ... I havent heard the Pathos but a friend of mine who uses SF Concerto auditioned both and he prefers the Pathos. He is a ss fan though so that is understandable. He claims the CJ is too slow and too soft for him with the Concerto. I personally think the CAV50 is just about perfect for the Signum w/c is precisely clearer, cleaner, leaner and faster sounding than the Concerto, although you wont be able to maximize the speaker's bass capabilities. Ah but what the heck, you definitely dont buy Signum for bass no? You just add a sub later. :-)
