Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Thanks for the help!

Last night I discovered that the hum had nothing to do in particular with the ICs. My system is in the process of being built, and I do not have a preamp yet, so I had been using a portable cd player using the headphone out into the amp.

After testing the ICs, I plugged my DVD player directly into the amp. The problem with the hum comes from the fact that the DVD player is connected to the TV which is connected to the VCR, then to the cable outlet.

Thanks for the article, Batman. I now understand the problem, but I will have to wait and see if the problem goes away once I get my DAC instead of using the audio outs of the DVD.

As for the quality of the ICs, I really can't make a good evaluation now, because connecting the DVD player directly into the amp is a little bit too loud to enjoy. However, I did try the ICs in my parents Kenwood / Bose system, replacing the Radio Shack ICs and both myself and my Dad (not really into music) could hear a remarkable improvement.
