When I made my V-Twist interconnects, I started with KLE Absolute plugs but eventually switched to WBT 0102-Ag. With each connector, I wrapped a small section of electrical tape a couple times around the V-Twist outer housing where the RCA plug bolts contact the cable. This way the bolts don't compress the cable but rather the tape wrapping. The electrical tape was cut to about 3/8" width so there is a minimal amount touching the cable housing. I suspect this approach will have less risk of affecting the sound than a couple inches of heatshrink.
Soldering the V-Twist wires to the RCA plug connectors was easy. So was stripping the insulation off the wires with a regular wire stripper.
