I wonder if anyone knows where I can get one of these cables? I have one already, so I know they exist, but I cannot find one anywhere as I don't know exactly what to search for... I sounds really simple, but I just can't find one anywhere - maybe I am being a bit daft?
If anyone can help I would be very grateful indeed as it's driving me mad... If I didn't already own one I would think they didn't exist.
The cable is a simple Y-splitter: It has a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack on one end and two RCA female phono type sockets on the other, BUT (this is the part I can't find as I don't know what to search for)...
The two RCA / phono connectors are also 3.5mm stereo headphones sockets!
So, the lead looks like a normal 3.5mm headphone to Left/ Right RCA female connectors, and you can indeed use it to connect your mobile phone, mp3 player, etc. to your amplifier just like a normal 3.5mm jack to RCA
BUT
You can also use the same lead to act like a splitter, so you can have two sets of 3.5mm jack headphones on one mp3 player.
It's a really clever idea and when I bought it from the £1 shop I didn't realise it was actually a combination splitter / adapter: It was only when I got home and looked at the packet that I saw two sets of headphones connected into holes on the female RCAs in a picture... Initially I thought it was an error or packaging for another lead, but I tried it out of interest and both sets of stereo headphones work, in stereo, as they should.
The £1 shop doesn't have any more of them and they buy end of line stock so they are unlikely to get more. Every search I do gets me a standard 3.5mm to RCA Y lead - none have the RCA that has the 3.5mm stereo jack inside it.
Everywhere I ask, I'm told that no such thing exists. As soon as I show them it, they are stumped and ask if I made it myself... Maybe these are really common and I haven't been searching for the right thing, but I can't find one anywhere. I'm beginning to think I've gone mad.
